Inside Ruto's Government Plan to Defend Ukraine Sovereignty From Russian Invasion

On Tuesday, April 23, the Kenyan government confirmed its support for Ukraine's sovereignty amid its conflict with Russia.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs shared this after a meeting between Maksym Subkh, Ukraine's Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa, and a Kenyan delegation including political and economic experts.

Subkh praised Kenya's foreign policy, calling it one of Ukraine's reliable partners in Africa. After the meeting, the Ukrainian government expressed hope for strengthening bilateral relations with Kenya.

Kenya has shown support for Ukraine by voting on relevant resolutions in the United Nations General Assembly, according to Subkh. Kenya's votes have backed Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Ukrainian government also mentioned Ukraine's efforts to reclaim its territories from Russian control and emphasized the need to restore the Black Sea grain corridor.

This corridor, previously agreed upon by Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, and the United Nations, aimed to ease the export of grain from certain ports to address global food shortages, especially in Africa and Asia.

In return, Kenya was informed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had successfully launched the "Grain from Ukraine" humanitarian initiative. This initiative will provide food donations to Kenya and other African countries.

Additionally, Kenya is interested in attracting Ukrainian investors to contribute capital and expertise in agriculture, digitization, and innovation.
