Haiti's feared gang leader, Jimmy Cherizier, also known as Barbecue, has issued a strong warning as the deployment draws near after the swearing-in of the presidential transitional council.
Barbecue warned the new council to prepare for a tough fight as they take over from former Prime Minister Ariel Henry. He suggested there might be a coup if the council didn't involve him in the takeover talks."Whether you're in power or not, be ready," Barbecue declared.
Gunfire erupted nearby soon after Barbecue's warning, showing the gang's determination to resist the new system.
While giving the warning, Barbecue urged the council to rethink their actions, promising to oppose them strongly. He aimed to prevent any foreign intervention that the council might provoke.
The Haiti gang, led by Barbecue, has been accused of widespread sexual assault, kidnappings for ransom, and indiscriminate killings.
Barbecue's message followed President William Ruto's acknowledgment of the new council, affirming Kenya's commitment to helping Haiti.
Ruto stated that the council must quickly restore key state organs to bring back law and order and give hope to Haitians."Kenya, along with other African nations and CARICOM, is ready to support Haiti's stability by providing security assistance," Ruto added.
