Kenyan politician who helped a woman in distress at a mall has spoken about the incident.
The video went viral, showing the woman kneeling and shouting for help after she couldn't pay her restaurant bill. Liz Mbugua, the Kinyona ward MCA, saw the commotion after finishing her shopping."I saw her kneeling and asking for help from people passing by. She said she was going to the police station."
The woman had eaten at a fancy restaurant but couldn't pay the KSh 1,550 bill because her visa card was declined. The restaurant called security, who called the police."I don't think anyone would eat at a restaurant if they knew they couldn't pay," Liz said.
She paid the bill for the woman and was surprised when the incident went viral. "I didn’t know people were recording. I got many messages after TUKO.co.ke published the story."
Liz, who supports 62 children with education, said her constituents weren't surprised. "They know I like to help people. That's how I was raised." Besides education, she's also helping families affected by floods.
She urged Kenyans not to ignore people in need, sharing a story when someone helped her. "I know there are scams, but at least ask what's wrong. If it's genuine, then please help."
