Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua apologized to Kesses residents in Uasin Gishu for not attending an event during the campaign season. Speaking in Matharu at an interdenominational church service on Sunday, Gachagua explained that his schedule was very busy at the time, and he couldn't make it to the event.
During his recent visit, Gachagua promised to pay a fine for missing the event and shared a message from President William Ruto. Before leaving for America, President Ruto discussed the Matharu visit with Gachagua and sent his greetings.
"The President sent me here with greetings and asked me to visit before he left for America. He also sent a contribution," Gachagua said. "He loves you and will visit this area when he returns."
Gachagua admitted, "I was supposed to come here during the campaign, but I couldn't make it. I was very busy and had little time. I ask for your forgiveness."
During his visit, the Deputy President donated Ksh10 million to Matharu High School for constructing an office block and other projects. He also announced that the government released Ksh600 million on Friday to pay milk farmers who faced delays in payments.
"I am here to apologize, and since I missed the event, I must pay a fine because that is our tradition in Africa," he added.
Earlier, Gachagua accused some of President Ruto's allies of interfering with Mt Kenya politics during an empowerment address in Uasin Gishu County. He claimed that these leaders were giving the President wrong advice ahead of the 2027 General Election, but assured that he and President Ruto have a good working relationship.
"Some politicians from Rift Valley have teamed up with others in Mt Kenya and are planning for 2027. Why plan to succeed the President while he is still in office?" Gachagua questioned. "The problem is a few leaders from this region who are giving bad advice to the President on Mt Kenya politics."
