The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) is looking into whether Uji Power and Okra are genuine
These products have become popular, especially among young Kenyans, who claim they help with women's sexual health.At a media workshop in Naivasha, Director Market Surveillance Peter Kaigwara said they would investigate the safety and quality of these products.
"We've heard about this and will start investigating right away," Kaigwara said.He told his team to test the products and share the results with the public.
"We'll check if they meet the standards," he added.Okra is a vegetable popular in Asia and West Africa. It's said to have health benefits like lowering cholesterol and protecting the heart.
People talk a lot about Okra online, with some women saying it helps their sexual health. Others aren't sure.The price of Okra ranges from Ksh80 to Ksh300, depending on where and when you buy it.
Uji Power is a traditional porridge that's said to boost immunity and energy. It's sold in a calabash and costs around Ksh50. In some Nairobi shops, it can be Ksh100.
It's made from arrowroots, sweet potatoes, milk, groundnuts, sugarcane juice, and cassava.Henry Maina from the Anti-Counterfeit Authority advised people to know how to spot real products.
"To find fakes, learn about the real products' features. This will help you see if something is fake," he said.
