Former President Uhuru Kenyatta expressed his condolences for the Kenyans who lost their lives in the floods.In a statement on Monday, he sympathized with the flood victims, saying his thoughts and prayers were with them.
"The heavy rains have caused a lot of damage, displacing families, destroying infrastructure, and taking lives. During this sad time, my thoughts and prayers are with the affected communities as they deal with the aftermath of this natural disaster," said the former President.
He also pledged a personal donation of Ksh2 million to the Kenya Red Cross Society to support their relief efforts for the flood victims.
Additionally, he called on volunteer medical professionals to provide healthcare services as doctors are on strike.He emphasized the importance of unity and compassion during such challenging times, urging the nation to support the flood victims.
Furthermore, he advised Kenyans to be cautious, avoid flooded areas, and seek higher ground when necessary for their safety.
This gesture from Uhuru comes after a tragic incident in Mai Mahiu where over 40 people lost their lives due to heavy flooding caused by a blocked tunnel bursting. As of the time of writing, more than 70 people were still missing and feared buried in the rubble.
