A former parliamentary aspirant, who contested in the 2022 elections without success, was apprehended on Saturday over allegations of serial fraud.
Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives from the Integrity Centre in Nairobi traced the politician to his hideout in Kitui, where he was arrested.
The politician had been posing as a high-ranking EACC official, deceiving unsuspecting Kenyans. He reportedly issued counterfeit integrity clearance certificates to vulnerable citizens.
An EACC official stated, "We arrested an individual who posed as an EACC detective, exploiting job seekers by issuing fake Integrity Clearance Certificates in the names of senior EACC officials."
The suspect, known for previous impersonation offenses, was transported to Nairobi and is currently held at Kilimani Police Station. He is scheduled to appear before Milimani Law Courts on Monday to face charges.
During the arrest, authorities seized a firearm and seven mobile phones from the suspect. Forensic analysis will determine if these devices were used in his fraudulent activities.
EACC cautioned against impersonating its officers, emphasizing that such actions are illegal and could lead to arrest and prosecution. The public is urged to report any individuals claiming to represent EACC through official channels.
