The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) raided the home of former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani in Marsabit on Wednesday morning, April 24. Yatani was arrested as part of a suspected corruption investigation.
Reports say that Yatani is currently with EACC detectives and will be questioned about his alleged involvement in misusing billions of public funds. He was supposed to go to the EACC Integrity Centre Police Station in the morning.
At the same time, EACC also raided the home of the current Marsabit Governor, Mohamud Mohamed Ali, and other top county officials. Governor Ali will be taken to EACC's Isiolo office for more questioning as part of the big corruption investigation.
Although the reasons for raiding Yatani's home are not clear, the EACC had previously asked the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to take legal action against allies of former President Uhuru Kenyatta involved in the Ksh6 billion Telkom takeover mess.
A report from EACC's third quarterly report from July to September 2023 shows that Yatani, former Treasury Principal Secretary Julius Muia, and Dr. Margret Nyakang'o are under investigation for the Telkom acquisition. The EACC recommended charges against them to the DPP in August 2023.
