What Changes After Ruto Signed the Statute Law Bill, the Law Changes 16 Acts of Parliament

 President William Ruto signed a new law called the Statute (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill on Wednesday.This law changes parts of sixteen (16) Acts of Parliament.


Here are some of the changes:

The law replaces the Public Service Commission with an Advisory Board for picking deputy Solicitors-General and State Counsel in the Attorney-General's office.

The Advisory Board will have the Attorney-General as the chair, along with other government officials and legal experts.

The Chief Registrar will now be in charge of the Judiciary's administration and have specific duties like managing the register of convicted sexual offenders.

The Chief Registrar will also handle appointments and oaths for court officials.The Law Society of Kenya now has more power to decide on the admission of advocates.

Instead of Utamaduni Day, the law introduces Mazingira Day as a public holiday on October 10th. It's a day to focus on environmental conservation activities like planting trees.The President can set up more institutions that offer specialized degrees in national security.

Some public institutions can be turned into technical universities if they have the right facilities and staff.The National Intelligence Service is exempt from following the Employment Act like other national security organs.

The law changes the date for remitting the training levy under the Industrial Training Act to the 9th day of the month.It makes minor corrections and adds new definitions in the Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Para-Professionals Act.

The Civil Aviation Act now includes more information in its definition of "publication" and gives more time for submitting annual reports.Technology can now be used to manage minor traffic offences under the Traffic Act, and penalties for offences are increased.

Some sections are deleted from the Public Finance Management Act to fix inconsistencies.Denatured ethanol supply is removed from items not subject to value-added tax under the Value Added Tax Act.
