He assured that any drivers found violating traffic rules would face consequences, as they put the lives of others at risk.
"Parents have a crucial role in ensuring their children's safety. They should select safe routes and collaborate with school authorities to establish safe pick-up and drop-off points. They should also release children for their journeys to school early," he stated.
The CS also mentioned that both the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the Police would increase efforts to enforce traffic regulations.
"This term begins during heavy rains, which cause dangerous road conditions due to flooding and infrastructure damage," he added.
"Road users should not underestimate the hazards of rain and flooding, as even shallow water can conceal deep potholes or strong currents. To reduce risks, drivers should maintain a safe distance, reduce speed, and show patience in areas with heavy rain or flooding."
NTSA Director General George Njao urged parents to communicate with drivers to promote road safety.
He stressed that such discussions could significantly influence how drivers handle the children they transport."Ensure the drivers listen to you, for the sake of the many innocent children they will be taking back to school," Njao emphasized.
"Remember, until the children reach school, their safety relies on the drivers, and that should be taken seriously."
