The Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) issued a report about Online Food and Grocery Delivery Platforms, focusing on concerns about handling consumer complaints and data protection.
In April, the report revealed that consumers were worried about how apps might use their data beyond just transactions.Even though platforms explain how they use shared data in their privacy terms, consumers still feel uneasy.
The report noted that platforms don't give consumers the choice to agree or disagree with data terms. If they disagree, they can't use the app. This goes against the Data Protection Act's section 56.
The report also found that some companies send complaints to headquarters outside Kenya. This makes resolving complaints take longer and cost more.CAK mentioned that only one delivery platform's headquarters is in Kenya.
This concern comes after CAK raised alarms in March about people pretending to be from CAK and defrauding businesses. They would enter shops, demand fines, take products, and threaten arrests.
