5-Storey Building Collapses in Gesima, Nyamira County as Floods Persist

Several people were on Tuesday, April 23, reported to have been trapped in a multi-storey building in Nyamira, County. This followed a heavy downpour in the region, causing buildings and other key infrastructure to collapse.


"Several people are feared trapped in a five-storey building collapse reported at Gesima in Nyamira County," a statement from Kenya Red Cross read in part.

Search and rescue operations are already underway.While no fatalities were reported at the time of publishing, it was confirmed that three people had been badly injured.

This comes after, Kenya Meteorological Department has listed five areas in Nairobi that will not experience rainfall on Friday, April 19, as witnessed in the past few days.

In a forecast for Nairobi County, Kenya Met listed Embakasi Central, Embakasi West, parts of Ruaraka, parts of Kamukunji and Embakasi North.Additionally, areas along Lang'ata and Kasarani will not experience rainfall in the next 24 hours.Kenya Met had warned Kenyans to anticipate heavy rainfall exceeding 40 mm across various parts of the country.

In the past three days, several parts of the country have experienced heavy rainfall with photos and videos circulating online showing Kenyans stranded as they attempt to cross flooded areas in Nairobi.
