A video showing the two hanging onto the car's door, waving their hands as they drove, caused outrage on social media.
The video went viral after Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen shared it, warning the car owner that law enforcement officers would track down those involved in the dangerous act.
Following their arrest, they appeared before Chief Magistrate Martha Nanzushi, where they admitted to the charges against them. The prosecution accused them of riding in a dangerous position, a violation of Section 61(4) of the Traffic Act.
According to the charge, on April 24, 2024, at 3 p.m., along Mombasa Road in Nairobi County, as passengers of motor vehicle registration number KCX 959B, a Mercedes Benz, they rode dangerously by sitting on the car's door.
Nanzushi ordered a pre-sentencing report to be prepared before she delivers their sentence based on their guilty plea. Another suspect, Loise Apata, who was driving the vehicle, is still at large, and the police are searching for him.
The two will remain in custody at Capitol Hill Police Station until their sentencing. Murkomen's warning became reality as police officers tracked down and charged the suspects.
